St. Charles Lwanga (1860-1886) was a Ugandan convert to Catholicism who served as the chief of the royal pages in King Mwanga II's court. After his conversion by White Fathers missionaries, he became an exemplary Catholic, instructing and protecting the young pages under his care. When King Mwanga II began persecuting Christians, Charles Lwanga secretly baptized four catechumens, including Kizito, a 14-year-old boy. He led a group of young Christian pages in refusing the king's immoral demands and maintaining their faith despite threats of death, ultimately being burned alive at Namugongo for his unwavering Christian conviction.
