St. Isidore the Farmer (San Isidro Labrador, c. 1070-1130) was a Spanish farmworker known for his piety and charity. Born to poor parents near Madrid, he spent his life as an agricultural laborer in the service of wealthy landowner Juan de Vargas. Despite his humble occupation, Isidore achieved great sanctity through his deep prayer life and generous charity to the poor. He married Maria Torribia (also venerated as Santa María de la Cabeza), and together they had one son. Isidore was known for beginning each day at Mass and for his deep devotion to God while working in the fields. His life demonstrates that sanctity is achievable in everyday work and ordinary circumstances.
